Lubbock, Texas, September 11, 2011 – On Saturday, October 22, Threads, Locks and Rock (TLR) will celebrate their 5th Annual Performance Art Show. The show is a fusion of revolutionary art and fashion set to a mesmerizing DJ lineup. The show will take place at Klusoz Ultra Lounge, located at 1802 Buddy Holly Avenue in Lubbock, at 10pm.
Next door at Tornado Gallery, TLRt (pronounced T-L-Art), a pre-show featuring music, art and a unique sponsors showcase will kick off the event starting at 8pm. This year musical guests Marquis of Vaudeville, Sounds Under Radio, and Spoonfed Tribe will offer heart-thumping live performances.
“As the world changes, we have to change with it,” Threads, Locks and Rock founder Toshia Humphries said. “We have to become more resourceful and evolve. I think the most creative and interesting way to evolve is to reinvent yourself and everything around you.”
The show is like a post apocalyptic dream, created through the alliance of TLR, FoxFlare clothing company, and TTU Fashion Design students and independent designers. Humphries has always been a visionary, melding art, music and fashion in new, stunning and imaginative ways. Humphries continues to innovate with each new show.
Local designers are featured in this 5th Annual Show, with sponsors including Three Olives Vodka, FoxFlare clothing, High Heel Junkie, Etiquette Vintage Clothing and Creations by Rebecca A. Beals. Doors open at 9pm and Three Olives Vodka drink specials will be available all night.
TLR has a community funded and supported program called Donate to the Arts. Threads, Locks and Rock established the program to promote the development of the arts and especially to encourage the new, the innovative and the experimental. The program is new, but community support is helping it to thrive.
Threads, Locks and Rock’s 5th Annual music, arts and fashion show promises to be an amazing experience. The show will also give guests a chance to acquaint themselves with local businesses. The revolution starts at 8pm at TLRt at Tornado Gallery and heats up at 10pm at TLReInvention at Klusoz Ultra Lounge. Trendsetters will feel right at home.
About Threads Locks and Rock:
Threads Locks and Rock originated with a concept by artist Toshia Humphries in 2006. With the support of a few forward-thinking admirers, Humphries developed her creation. In 2007, the first Threads, Locks and Rock show was held in the fall, becoming the first fashion show with its new style of mixing fashion with music and performance. TLR has continued to grow and evolve over the years, always providing unique arts experiences for performers and audiences.
Toshia Humphries, as the lead artist for TLR, has big plans for the future of the show. Seeing a need for more culture in Lubbock, Humphries aims to fill that gap with her own brand of arts and entertainment. At the same time, the artist sees the beauty and talent of Lubbock and hopes to bring it to light for others. Humphries lives by a quote by Ghandi, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” With Threads, Locks and Rock, Humphries is doing just that.
