Threads, Locks & Rock was conceived by Toshia Humphries in December, 2006. However, the process of bringing it to fruition was a challenging one. Still, a few people listened and admired the vision, trusted her passion and took the risk. Each year, as the vision grew brighter, the show always maintained a position of giving back, often by donating the proceeds of their show to local and national charities, such as the Global Fund.
As of Fall 2007, Threads Locks & Rock became the first fashion/entertainment/performance art show of its kind. Today, TLR is a growing endeavor with the sole purpose of forging a creative outlet for artists, musicians and appreciators of style and culture, alike.
The artist maintains both short-term and long-term goals for the project, hoping only to continue to provide Lubbock with the art, music, culture and entertainment it has so wanted and needed for quite some time. Through this combined effort, the artist hopes to inspire others to see Lubbock’s hidden talents, beauty and potential. Her attitude toward the project and its conception, as well as her other artistic endeavors, can be summed up in one simple quote: “Be the change you wish to see in the world. ~ Ghandi”
